BACKGROUND
Nephtiris used to be a worshipped and highly regarded high priestess to the egyptian gods Bastet and Nephthys.
She lived a very protected life, with only her priestess duties to uphold. She was said to have great healing powers, and people blessed by her would live a long life and die a peaceful death.
Unarguably, being worshipped this much did eventually get to her head a little and she started to see herself as godlike and divine.
One fateful night, when she was praying in the temple by herself, she had visions of the goddesses. They praised her for the good she had done, especially for the women and girls around her, but they also scolded her for believing she was on the same level as them, telling her they would leave her side for this. This hallucination, likely induced by the heaps of burned incense, drove her into deep despair and caused her to lock herself up for several days. She felt no hunger and only drank the blessed water from the small fountain in her room. She begged the goddesses for forgiveness over and over again, but they didn't seem to show themselves to her again.
Dead sure that her goddesses abandoned her, she was ready to give up the rank of high priestess and live her life as a normal peasant, when on the last morning of her self-imposed imprisonment, a creature appeared in front of her.
It was graceful and beautiful, bathed in the light of the first rays of the morning sun.
She thought she heard it speak, asking if she felt lost and as she cried and replied with yes, the creature lifted all of the worlds weight of her.
As Nephtiris opened her eyes to her new self, the creature was gone. Nothing was left of her former existence, but her memories of being worshipped and loved by all.
She had forgotten the hallucination and the despair, she only remembered the good, the feeling of being godlike and divine.
She stepped out of her chambers, right through the walls and walked up to her followers.... but no one would see her, no one would praise her. So she cursed them. Cursed them all for what was done to her.
PERSONALITY
Nephtiris is beauty, grace and divinity.
But to all this light, there is a lot of shadow. She is filled with the fury of having been forced into this life, making her vindictive and merciless in many situations.
She despises weakness and she does not bow to anyone. Her hatefulness often turns other esk away from her, even the great mother of the desert seems to only shake her head over Nephtiris twisted view of the world... and how it should treat her.
Nephtiris has never felt fear before, since she feels above everything and everyone. The few things that are out of her control, like the cycle of life and death are just given constants, so there is nothing to fear either.
In her heart she is still a high priestess and even though it was centuries ago, she still only feels at rest in her old chambers of the egyptian temple.
This soft part of her self, has her tend to plants around her, healing them and helping them grow and thrive in the relentless desert sun. It gives her a small sense of fulfillment and joy.
What many don't know is that she is lonely. She used to have people around her every day and every night, fighting to fulfill her every wish, complimenting her, making her gifts...
And now all of this is gone and there is this emptiness in her soul. But of course, she wouldnt open up to anyone. No one could find out that she, the godlike priestess herself, has a weak point.
The snake familiars that curl around her head represent her closest followers from her former life. Even though they are just parts of her being, manifested by her own power, she still appreciates their represence and the loneliness they combat.
On the rare occassions when she feels gracious enough to bless other esk with her presence, she usually acts rather condescending, getting angry quick if she feels like an esk disrespects her.
Thanks to her divine aura though, most esk are influenced to see her as someone awe-inspiring, that they need to treat with utmost respect.
